Based in Bristol, NORclad have supplied the timber on a wide variety of Orme projects, both domestic and commercial.
Working with specialist suppliers like NORclad is an important step in ensuring the specification and detailing of timber cladding is correct, in order to ensure a beautiful, natural finish for years to come.
At Mill Farm Barns we specified Canadian Western Red Cedar for areas of the external cladding, in a variety of widths to add visual interest to the meeting room barn elevation. This timber was also used to pick up details like the protruding window surrounds and edgings on the main office building.
Internally, European Redwood was specified for the wall and ceiling linings – an open batten system which not only looks beautiful, it also helps soften the acoustic reverberation and create a comfortable acoustic environment in the office.
Both internal and external timbers were finished with a NORclad ‘brunnea’ treatment, which impregnates the timber with a blend of preservative and pigment, ensuring a richness of timber tone as well as a resistance to rot and fungal decay, meaning the timber will last well in excess of 50 years.
We have specified various species of timber and finishes on numerous projects in the office. Some clients are keen to allow timber to naturally silver-grey over time, some prefer timber to keep that original ‘warmth’ for longer. Other options include dark stains, which can help reduce spend as a more cost effective timber species can be selected – it does mean the stain will require re-application over time but some clients have that preference.
We look forward to continuing to work with NORclad in the future and exploring ideas for creating beautiful, natural building finishes, both inside and out.
